Remember When?

10 years ago (1993)"Rock County moved one step closer to obtaining federal disaster funding Tuesday as County Board members approved an official request for presidential declaration of major disaster. That decision was little more than a formality following a recommendation by the Federal Emergency Management Agency inspectors after they toured Rock County last week, assessing damages and collecting estimates."25 years ago (1978)"It sounds almost like a broken record. Many of the 24 people who are seeking the 15 positions up for election on the seven area school boards tag declining enrollment and tight budgets as the highest hurdles ahead for the boards."50 years ago (1953)"There will be a coronation ceremony held Friday at Magnolia. Mr. and Mrs. Cedric Adams are going to be crowned ‘Duke and Duchess of Magnolia’ in a ceremony to be held there under the auspices of the ‘home folks.’ Darrell Lester, acting as mayor will place the crowns on the heads of Magnolia’s favorite son and wife."75 years ago (1928)"In the opinion of Lawrence K. Fox, of Pierre, S.D., state historian of South Dakota, the iron post which marks the dividing line between Minnesota, Iowa and South Dakota, six and one-half miles southwest of hills, was placed there by members of a United States geodetic or geographic survey and not by members of the Lewis and Clark expedition or by Jefferson Davis, as is commonly claimed."100 years ago (1903)"Corn planting was delayed, though without any injury to the grain then in the ground, by a series of showers which began Friday night and continued intermittently until Tuesday morning. The total of the rainfall for that period is reported by Harry Hinkly, the voluntary weather observer, as 3.31 inches. The rainfall Monday was three-fourths of an inch."
