Patriots run well at True Team meet

By John RittenhouseThe Hills-Beaver Creek-Ellsworth-Edgerton track teams turned in outstanding performances during the Section 3A True Team Track and Field Championships in Slayton Thursday.Rain and windy conditions challenged all the athletes on hand for the meet, but the Patriots rose to the challenge to land respectable places in the final team standings.The H-BC-E-E boys tallied 688 points to place fourth in a 15-team field. The girls’ placed fifth out of 13 teams with 474.5 points, which was their best finish at a true team meet.Chris Reid won a pair of individual events to lead the Patriot boys in Slayton.Reid, who placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.58, won the long jump with a distance of 21-7 3/4 and took top honors with a time of 11.06 in the 100-meter dash.Reid also ran a leg with H-BC-E-E’s 400-meter relay, which placed second with a time of 47.48. Zach Boyum, Brad Van Dyke and Curt Schilling joined Reid in the race.Tyler Bush and Cody Scholten placed second in individual events.Bush came in second with times of 2:07 and 4:48 in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs.
