H-BC-E-E, AHS run in section event Thursday

By John RittenhouseA pair of teams from the Star Herald coverage area participated in the Section 3A True Team Track and Field Championships in Slayton Friday.Hills-Beaver Creek-Ellsworth-Edgerton and Adrian didn’t capture any team titles at the event, but the schools did register solid efforts in individual events and relays.H-BC-E-E athletes secured three meet titles and placed second in six events.Adrian athletes came up with a pair of third-place performances to serve as their highlights of the meet.Chris Reid won a pair of individual events to lead the Patriot boys in Slayton.Reid, who placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.58, won the long jump with a distance of 21-7 3/4 and took top honors with a time of 11.06 in the 100-meter dash.Reid also ran a leg with H-BC-E-E’s 400-meter relay, which placed second with a time of 47.48. Zach Boyum, Brad Van Dyke and Curt Schilling joined Reid in the race.Tyler Bush and Cody Scholten placed second in individual events.Bush came in second with times of 2:07 and 4:48 in the 800- and 1,600-meter runs. Scholten cleared 5-8 to place second in the high jump.The Patriot girls received a pair of solid performances turned in by Cassi Tilstra.Tilstra, who finished second in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:05.3, won the 800-meter run in 2:39.Kyle Knips and the boys’ 800-meter relay team secured third-place efforts for AHS.Knips joined Chad Janssen, Billy Anderson and Anton Klingenberg to produce a time of 1:30.35.
