The reports are all over the map about pheasant hunting success in the first few weeks of the pheasant hunting season.
My efforts were pretty solid for the first few days and they have tailed off greatly since. There is a whole list of possible excuses, but I will start with the ones that I think can actually hold water from a pheasant and dog biology perspective.

The Luverne trap team turned in final scores for the fall league this past week.
“It has been a great season of shooting,” team assistant Julie Wynia said.
“Although we didn’t have any perfect rounds this week, we did have nine athletes in league/in-house that scored at least one round of 20 or more.”

John Call recorded his first hole-in-one Wednesday, Oct. 23, on hole No. 7 at the Luverne Country Club.
“I knew I hit a good shot off the tee box,” Call said. “I did not see the ball land as we were hitting into the sun.”

Luverne’s David Duffy hosted his Duff Dog Backyard Ultra event Oct. 12 at the Blue Mounds State Park with over 35 competitors.
The event, which challenged athletes to complete 100 miles in one day, attracted participants from as far away as Colorado. The youngest were in their 20s, and three were in their 60s.

Piper Wynia was the high score shooter, hitting 48 targets out of 50 possible.
