LHS falls 20-16 to Pipestone in Battle Axe game on the road

Luverne lost 20-16 to the Pipestone Arrows in the highly contested Battle Axe game Friday, Sept. 26, in Pipestone.

LHS let a 16-13 fourth quarter lead slip with eight minutes left in the game on a broken passing play by Pipestone.

Cardinals dig up two wins at home against Jackson and Edgerton squads

The Luverne volleyball team posted two home wins, beating Jackson County Central 3-1 Tuesday, Sept. 23, and topping Edgerton Public 3-1 Monday, Sept. 29.

The Cardinals are now 9-9 for the season.

Patriots football team defeats GHECT 50-8, stays undefeated through five weeks

The H-BC football team extended their winning streak to 5-0, beating the Granada-Huntley-East Chain-Truman (GHEC-T) Jaguars on the road Friday, Sept. 26.

“I thought we did a good job of taking away some of Jaguars strengths on offense,” H-BC head coach Rex Metzger said.

Hills native participates in The 437 Project run across South Dakota

Hills native Tony Goettsch joined 11 other runners to cover 437 miles in four days for one cause, The 437 Project.

Luverne runners excel in St. James cross country invitational Sept. 23

The Luverne cross country team traveled to St. James Tuesday, Sept. 23, for in invitational at the Jackson Golf Course.

The LHS girls’ 5,000-meter team placed first in their event, beating out St. James and Fairmont in the varsity event.

Lady Pates volleyball team beats Coyotes, falls to Dragons

The Patriots volleyball team split two matches this past week and now post a 6-7 record for the season.

H-BC beat the Heron Lake-Okabena/Fulda Coyotes 3-2 at home Tuesday, Sept. 23, and fell 3-0 to Adrian/Ellsworth Thursday, Sept. 25, on the road.

Cards fall twice in tennis

The Luverne girls’ tennis team lost two matches on the road this past week.

The Cardinals fell 5-4 in a close match with Sioux Falls Lincoln Tuesday, Sept. 23, and lost 5-2 to Marshall Thursday, Sept. 25, to finish the regular season 6-8.

Fall trap shooting season opens with a bang in Luverne

The Luverne High School trap shooting team started their fall season Monday, Sept. 22, at the Rock County Sportsman’s Club.

This was their first of five weeks of competition in the Minnesota High School Clay Target League.
