The Cardinals volleyball team is 3-1 for the season after a series of games over the past week.
Luverne lost to Southwest Christian 3-0 Tuesday, Aug. 29, on the road.
The Cardinals beat Murray County Central and West Lyon 2-0 in both games Thursday, Aug. 31, at a Luverne Triangular.
Luverne was scheduled to take on Marshall on the road Tuesday, Sept. 5, and will travel to Westbrook Walnut Grove Thursday, Sept. 7, before hosting an invitational Saturday, Sept. 9.
Southwest Christian 3, Luverne 0
The Luverne volleyball team traveled to Edgerton to take on Southwest Minnesota Christian Tuesday, Aug. 29.
The Cardinals lost three sets 25-16, 25-20 and 25-21 in a close contest.
“Southwest was ready to play,” head coach Sarah DeBeer said. “We just couldn’t get anything started on our side.”
Junior Ella Reisdorfer led Luverne with eight digs, six kills and was 13 of 14 with one ace from the service line.
Hannah Sneller, a junior, had six set assists and was six for six from the service line.
Junior Kylie Vander Lugt had six digs for the Cardinals.
Junior Amira Cowell provided eight set assists in the three sets.
Senior Kira John had two blocks assists and one solo block.
Senior Tori Serie posted six kills in the contest.
“Missing 12 serves in three games really does some damage,” DeBeer said.
“Those are easy points other teams don’t have to work for.”
Luverne Triangular
The Luverne volleyball team hosted a triangular Thursday, Aug. 31, with Murray County Central and West Lyon.
In Luverne’s first game the Cardinals beat Murray County Central in two sets 25-17 and 25-14.
In the second game Luverne beat West Lyon 25-22 and 26-24.
“I thought our girls came out ready to work hard. We served aggressively, hit and blocked very well,” DeBeer said.
“Everyone took care of what their job was in those matches and exceeded my expectations after coming off a tough loss to Southwest Christian.”
Stats for the games were not recorded, due to game scheduling at the triangular.
