•It all started five years ago with five tractors and 50 people. Now the annual event has grown to include more than 35 tractors and 150 guests.
Ken and Phyllis Vos, Luverne, hosted their annual tractor party July 30, and the event again lived up to its colorful reputation.
A banner above the garage door declared, “Hay! It’s a tractor party!” in John Deere green and yellow letters.
The street was lined on both sides with tractors—both old and newer and both red and green. Well, mostly green. Guests gathered for a picnic supper, they played yard games with the kids, and then it was time for the main event, an old-fashioned hay ride and tractor parade.

•Much like the railroads, freeways and telephone lines brought opportunity to communities in days gone by, the Internet is presenting a whole new world of opportunity for those who are willing to pursue it.
Exactly how to jump on the information superhighway dominated a portion of discussion at Tuesday’s County Board Meeting.
Rock County Coordinator Kyle Oldre presented the board with information from a meeting with area officials to discuss a proposal from a Sioux Falls corporation to provide Internet access to Luverne.
Oldre reported the new corporation, IWAY, is willing to provide Internet access to Luverne.
Oldre reported the new corporation, IWAY, is willing to provide Internet access to Rock County at the price of a local telephone call. Long distance telephone charges have so far been the biggest barrier to outstate Internet users.

•A new addition to the residence sections of Luverne is to be platted by Harry Smook, and the lots will be offered for sale at auction on the afternoon of Saturday, Aug. 28th, commencing at 1:30 o’clock.
The land to be platted is a part of the former Luverne nursery property, beginning at a point immediately south of C. W. Horne’s home, and extending south along the east side of South Donaldson street to the highway which runs east and west on the north side of the former Hodgson farm.
This land is the highest part of the nursery property, and as it is practically level, but little, if any, grading will be necessary. Mr. Smook plans to have the lots laid out in 70-foot-wide strips that will be 272 feet, 6 inches in length. Thus they will extend east to a point that will give the lots also a frontage on West Park street, if that street is extended south at any time.
