•Effective today, the Coffey Haus on Luverne’s Main Street will no longer be the property of founder Sue Gruis.
Gruis, who started the Coffey Haus in September 1996, has sold the business to Tammy Makram.
 
20 years ago (1995)
•After 66 years of serving Luverne and area retail customers, the Creeger family will no longer be in the clothing business. ...
The family business was started in 1929 by Randy’s grandfather, Harley Creeger. The business was passed down from Harley to his son, Richard, and from Richard to his son, Randy.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•A shorthorn yearling shown by Cheryl Kramer, 19, of Magnolia, won two prizes at the International Live Stock Exposition at Chicago last week.
Her 930-pound steer named Supreme was picked as junior grand champion and also won the Shorthorn breed championship. Her steer won over a field of 40 in the largest show in the United States.
Cheryl (now Cheryl Miller) is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Alvin Kramer of Magnolia.
 
75 years ago (1940)
•A meeting of local aviation enthusiasts and members of the Civic and Commerce association will be held ... for the purpose of discussing the possibility of establishing an airfield here. A number of Luverne residents are interested in taking flying lessons, and if sufficient interest can be generated, a fling club may be formed and a plane purchased for use by the club members. The Civil Aeronautics Board last October designated an appropriation of $5,500 for the development of an airfield in Luverne, but to date no further action has been taken.
 
100 years ago (1915)
•The tuberculosis commissioners for this district met at Worthington Wednesday for the purpose of cleaning up an accumulation of matters pertaining to the construction of the sanatorium for this district at Worthington. Dr. C. L. Sherman, president of the board, and County Attorney C. H. Christopherson, and commissioners for Rock County drove to Worthington to attend the meeting.
