Blood drive scheduled for Aug. 17 in Luverne

As local blood supplies falls into a critical shortage, Sanford Luverne Medical Center and Community Blood Bank will host an urgently needed community blood drive from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2:30 to 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17. 

Legislation advances to expand tick disease research, testing

U.S. Sen. Tina Smith announced the bipartisan Kay Hagan Tick Reauthorization Act passed the Senate unanimously. The bill will expand research, testing and treatment for Lyme and other tick-borne diseases. 

Quilt show highlights artistry and skill

Over 40 community members enjoyed the Van Heerde Sisters Quilt Trunk Show on Monday, Aug. 3. The event, sponsored by the Blue Mound Quilt Guild, was held at the Rock County Community Library and featured quilts by sisters Deb and Darla Van Heerde.

Bonnie M. Kirchhofer, age 88, of South Haven, died Monday, Aug. 3, 2026, at Meeker Memorial Hospital in Litchfield.

Jeffrey Allen Heronimus, age 67 of Tracy, Minn., passed away peacefully Tuesday, Aug. 4, 2026, at Prairie View Senior Living. A private burial will be held at a later date in the Bethel Cemetery in rural Garvin, Minn.

Brock Raymond Theilbar, age 60, of Luverne, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026, at his home.
