Rock County residents joined voters from across Minnesota to cast ballots in the 2026 Primary Election on Tuesday, Aug. 11. 

In addition to voting in the partisan primaries, some voters had local races to decide on. 

Luverne High School senior Darius Dolo won the 2026 Cardinal Pride competition on the opening day of football practice Monday, Aug. 17.

I have a confession to make: I own too many houseplants. Not by my estimations, of course, but maybe by others.

On Aug. 21, National Senior Citizens Day recognizes the achievements of the more mature representatives of our nation. The day provides an opportunity to show our appreciation for their dedication, accomplishments, and services they give throughout their lives. 

Families celebrating the Labor Day holiday with a cookout will find that prices at the grocery store closely reflect inflation increases over the last year.

Rick Peterson won the special election for Rock County’s District 3 and joined the county board of commissioners earlier this week. 

Peterson, who retired last month as Star Herald general manager, garnered 259 votes compared to Deon Carriere’s 103.

The little congregation of Palisade Lutheran Church in western Rock County hosted its annual “Sunday Fun Day” on Aug. 9 when it served over 100 community members a meal of burgers and hot dogs.
