A bumper crop this year is creating grain storage challenges on the farm and at commercial locations. Here, Chandler Feed and Grain elevator in Hardwick now has more piles and larger piles than usual due to high corn yields. Other nearby elevators such as Magnolia and Wilmont also have corn on the ground.

Rock County farmers are hauling in a bumper crop — potentially record-breaking — this harvest season, according to local reports.

Girls’ 100-point club keeps growing

Ella Apel, Izzy Steensma and Tenley Behr reached their 100th career points in the first six games of the 2025-26 Cardinals hockey season.

Apel, a senior, was the first to break the 100-point career mark Nov. 8 in the game against Willmar.

Boy’s hockey beats Redwood 18-0

The Luverne boys’ hockey team extended its winning streak to 5-0 after taking down Redwood Valley 18-0 on the road Dec. 2 and Marshall 3-0 Dec. 4 at home.

LHS wrestlers open with home triangular

The Luverne Cardinals wrestling team started off the 2025-26 season hosting a triangular and then traveling to separate boys’ and girls’ tournaments this past week.

Cardinals win twice to start season

The Luverne boys’ basketball team captured two wins and had one loss this past week to start the 2025-26 season with a 2-1 record.

Luverne gymnasts flip over Redwood at home

The Luverne gymnastics team opened the 2025-26 season beating Redwood Valley 128.45-126.725 at home.

“It’s nice to have the first meet behind us. It helps clear out some of the jitters and see how the judges score their routines,” LHS head coach Phoebe Flom said.

Cardinal girls drop two games

Luverne fell twice this past week in girls’ basketball action.

LHS lost 67-51 to Fairmont at home Tuesday, Dec. 2, and lost a one-point game to Arlington, South Dakota, 50-49 on the road Friday, Dec. 5.
