Wysong slaps two hits, pitches in Metrodome Friday

By John RittenhouseHills-Beaver Creek High School junior Zach Wysong had a good week as a member of the Luverne High School baseball team.Wysong slapped four hits at the plate and made two pitching performances during games against Buffalo and Windom.Luverne played Buffalo at the Hubert. H. Humphrey Metrodome in Minneapolis Friday night, where the Cardinals secured a 10-3 victory. Luverne opened Southwest Conference play by dropping a 10-9 decision in Windom Tuesday.Wysong had a two-hit game during Tuesday’s game in Windom.With the Cardinals trailing 9-5 in the fifth inning, Wysong delivered a double that ignited a four-run rally and tied the game at nine.Luverne, however, lost the game with Wysong on the mound in the bottom of the seventh. After taking over for J.T. Bruynes with one man on base in the bottom of the seventh, Wysong recorded two outs before Windom scored the game-winning run on a throwing error.Wysong finished the game with two hits and one run in three official plate appearances.Wysong had a memorable appearance in the Metrodome Friday against Buffalo.The Cardinal shortstop slapped two hits and drove in two runs in five trips to the plate offensively. He also pitched one scoreless inning of relief.Wysong helped the Cardinals grab an early lead when he slapped a two-run single to cap a three-run rally in the top of the first inning. He added another hit later in the game.He took the mound with Luverne leading 10-3 in the bottom of the sixth inning. Wysong preserved the lead by fanning two batters and allowing one hit during his one-inning stint on the hill.Luverne is scheduled to play a doubleheader in Redwood Falls today before hosting Murray County Central for a single game Monday.
