    The Luverne American Legion baseball team opened its season with five games this week. On Tuesday, June 7, Luverne traveled to Fulda and earned its first win.     The Luverne Redbirds traveled to Belle Plaine to compete in the Tigertown Classic Saturday and Sunday. Luverne went 1-1 in the tournament and stands at 7-3 on the season. The Redbirds host Fairmont Sunday at 2 p.m. at Redbird Field.     More than sixty-five runners participated in the annual Buffalo Days Fun Run on Saturday, June 4 in Luverne. The event, organized by Sanford Luverne, included 5K and 10K races for men and women and a half-mile kids fun run.     Luverne is set to host two triathlons in July. The Davis Lake Triathlon will be a part of the activities planned for July 4 at The Lake at the end of West Edgehill Street. A mini race will begin at 9 a.m. That event will include 0.3 miles of kayaking, two miles of bike riding and a one-mile run. The main triathlon will begin at 10 a.m. July 4.     The Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots were represented well at the Minnesota State Track and Field Meet at Hamline University in St. Paul Friday and Saturday. Sophomore Zach Scholten, who tied the school record when he won the Section 3A meet, competed in the high jump.
