    Hills-Beaver Creek’s football coach, Rex Metzger was named District Coach of the Year for the 2020 season. Metzger coached the Patriots to a perfect 7-0 season. The Patriots ended the 2020 season with a section championship victory over Mountain Lake Area. The Patriots were recently awarded the Associated Press nine-man state champions.

    The South Central District announced their all-district team for the 2020 season recently and the Luverne Cardinals were well represented. In total the Cardinals had five players receive all-district honors.     The Big South Conference announced its fall sports all-conference teams for volleyball on Monday, Nov. 30. The Luverne Cardinals had three players recognized.     The nine-man Southwest Conference announced its all-district teams on Tuesday, Dec. 1. The Hills-Beaver Creek Patriots, the top-ranked team in nine-man football, were well represented.     Covid-19 has caused plenty of disturbances in 2020, some with life-altering ramifications.     On Nov. 18 Gov. Tim Walz released new Covid-19 restrictions that impacted youth sports in the state of Minnesota. The new guidelines put a pause on youth sports for four weeks.
