Cardinal tennis team loses 4-3 to Fairmont in home meet

The Luverne girls’ tennis team lost a close meet to Fairmont at home, 4-3, on Tuesday, Aug. 29.

The Cardinals lost all four singles matches and won their three doubles matches against Fairmont.

In singles play, Luverne’s No. 1 match, senior Sarah Stegenga lost two sets 6-1, 6-1 to Hope Klanderud.

LHS senior Morgan Hadler gave up two sets to Abigail Peyman 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 2 match.

In No. 3 singles, LHS senior Rayann Remme lost her first set 6-4 and her second set 6-1 to Elly Stegge.

Cardinals junior Katia Jarchow lost No. 4 singles 6-1, 6-1 to Emelia Klanderud.

In doubles play, Luverne won all three matches.

Juniors Augusta Papik and Caitlin Kindt defeated Madisyn Peyman and Brynn Gustafson in two sets 6-2 and 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles match.

In the No. 2 doubles match, seniors Roselynn Hartshorn and Cassi Chesley beat Ellie Plumhoff and Jaydan Moses 6-2, 6-3.

Juniors Emma Nath and Corynn Oye won their doubles match at No. 3 6-1, 6-1 against Claire Brockman and Carly Gustafson.

The Cardinals tennis team has five wins and two meet losses for the season.

Luverne was scheduled to travel to Blue Earth Area Tuesday, Sept. 5, and will host Marshall Thursday, Sept. 7.
