10 years ago (2005)
•During a noon staffing workshop Monday, Luverne Superintendent Vince Schaefer announced to School Board members he intends to resign.
Schaefer accepted a position with the Beresford, S.D., school district.
 
25 years ago (1990)
•Donald Veldkamp, president of Tri-State Insurance, Luverne, is leaving that position to head up another division of the W.R. Berkley Corporation in Lincoln, Neb., Tri-State announced yesterday.
Veldkamp becomes president of Union Insurance Company.
 
50 years ago (1965)
•A Sioux Falls wholesale auto supply firm will open a branch in the front of the building, just west of Herman Motor Co., which Fred Herman has purchased from W.L. Krug.
Herman announced this week that he had bought the building and that he had made arrangements to lease the front part to L and L Motor supply … They will open about July 1.
 
75 years ago (1940)
•The sides of the Brown Elevator company building at Hardwick literally burst last week, spreading corn over a large area of ground. The cause of damage was cited as being due to the frost leaving the ground, causing the foundation to settle more on one side with the result that the weight of the corn shifted to one side of the building.
 
100 years ago (1915)
•At the next meeting of the county commissioners to be held on May 25th, the Rock County Agricultural society will appear before the board with a petition for an appropriation of $5,000 for the purpose of buying additional ground and building a live stock barn for the county fair.
