10 years ago (1993)"Chalk it up to a sign of the times, but the closing of the Kenneth Grocery store is a big disappointment to the people of the little community.‘I’ve bought all my groceries there all my married life,’ said Delores Strassburg, Kenneth. ‘I’ve been married 53 years.’The grocery store has served Kenneth customers for 93 years under various ownerships."25 years ago (1978)"The next water bill for residents of Luverne will include a 10 percent increase in base rates.Without discussion at the regular meeting Tuesday, the city council unanimously passed an ordinance to increase water rates 10 percent immediately."50 years ago (1953)"George Golla and Magnus Christensen are mighty relieved fellows this week. They finally caught the culprit that has been killing turkeys from their flock east of Luverne … but it cost them more than $3,000 and many sleepless nights. Early last Thursday morning they caught the killer in the act … a big mongrel dog."75 years ago (1928)"Lack of sufficient moisture to produce luxuriant pasture vegetation is clearly shown in the results obtained by the Rock County Cow Testing association for the month of September. In fact, only five cows out of the three hundred fifty-seven in the twenty-six herds, produced forty pounds or more of butterfat during the month. In the party will be Dr. C.O. Wright, Dr. C.A. Palmer, B.E. Schmuck, Mayor J.H. Furlow, Recorder E.C. Schwartz and H.P. Blasdell. They expect to be absent ten days."
