Patriots prevail in first high school match at Beaver Creek

By John RittenhouseThe Hills-Beaver Creek boys’ golf team opened the 2004 season by playing the first high school golf match at the Beaver Creek Golf Course Tuesday.H-BC-E’s debut on its new home links was a successful one as the Patriots defeated Sioux Valley-Round Lake-Brewster 184-189.Jason Martens led the charge for H-BC-E by shooting a seven-over-par 43 to win medalist honors for the Patriots.Tom Janssen and Ben Herman contributed 44- and 46-stroke efforts to H-BC-E’s team tally, while Nick Deutsch rounded out the scoring with a 51.Tom Scholten and Travis Chapa shot 52s for the Patriots without influencing the scoring.Tyler Hogan, Jared Bourquin and Mike Schmitz all shot 47s to pace the Raiders.H-BC-E came up on the short end of a 224-279 tally in the B match.Jeremy Elbers led the Patriots with a 58.Kenny Bittner, Ryan Kix and Josh Nolte added 60-, 74- and 87-stroke scores to the team effort. Stephan Harsma carded a 121 without influencing the scoring.The Patriots host Westbrook-Walnut Grove Tuesday.
