Gertrude Steinberg, age 100, of Hills, Minnesota, died Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, Minnesota.

Visitation was Wednesday, October 30, 2024, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills, Minnesota.

Private funeral for family and friends will be held Thursday, Oct. 31, at the Jurrens Funeral Home in Hills, Minnesota.  Burial will follow at Eastside Cemetery near Steen, Minnesota.

Gertrude H. (Scholten) Steinberg was born Jan. 24, 1924, in Martin Township, Rock County near Steen, Minnesota, the daughter of G.J. and Carrie (Kroon) Scholten.  Gertrude attended country school and graduated from Hills High School on May 29, 1941.

After graduation she moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and she stayed with John’s sisters while working at a department store.

On June 10, 1945, she was united in marriage to John Steinberg at Omaha.  They made their home in Hills, Minnesota. Gertrude worked at the Nuffer Hardware Store in Hills from 1946 until 1978. She then went to Luverne Glass and Paint until 1992 at which time she moved her employment to Hills True Value Hardware until 1999. In 1999 she started working at Luverne True Value until she retired in 2001.

She was a member of the Steen Reformed Church and the Hills American Legion Auxiliary.

In May of 2019 she became a resident of the Tuff Memorial Home where she died this past Friday, Oct. 25, 2024, at the age of 100 years and 9 months. She will be missed by her only son, James.

She is survived by her son, James Steinberg, of Hills, Minnesota, and several nieces and nephews.

Gertrude was preceded in death by her parents, G.J. and Carrie; her husband, John; brothers Arend, Gerald, Dennis and Harvey and her sisters, Janet and Matilda; along with numerous nephews, nieces and cousins and a close friend, Lena Marbus.
