Luke tells the original Christmas story

Christians believe “God so loved the world that he gave his only son” to take away the sins of the world (John 3:16), and as such, Christmas is a celebration of the arrival of Jesus as told in the Bible’s second chapter of Luke:

 

What's on your tree

I enjoy seeing the variety of Christmas trees this time of year as people’s personal tastes and holiday spirit are expressed in their choice of lights and ornaments on the branches.

Many are truly beautiful, and I marvel at the creative investment in each of them.

Luverne hosts two tourneys, competes in eight duals

The Luverne Cardinals wrestling team won three and lost five duals this past week.

At the Sibley Quadrangular Tuesday, Dec. 16, Luverne fell 47-24 to Sibley-Ocheyedan, 58-24 to Spirit Lake Park and 76-6 to West Sioux.

Christmas memories evolve through the decades

It’s not often that my column hits the stands and mailbox the day before Christmas. So, I thought I would take the opportunity to share a few of my Christmas memories from childhood to grandpa-hood.

Strong, Brave and Hopeful

This fall has been rough for Luella and our family.

Luella began experiencing an increase in seizures over the summer, and in September a severe seizure on the school tennis court resulted in a concussion and eight stitches. 

LHS girls’ hockey team wins two conference games at home

The Luverne girls’ hockey team won two conference games and now have a 7-5 season record and a 5-3 Big South Conference record.

Luverne beat Windom 8-0 Tuesday, Dec. 16, at home and won 4-1 against New Ulm Friday, Dec. 19, on home ice.

Construction progresses on water tower

Rock County Rural Water Director Ryan Holtz recently shared Dec. 16 photographs of the new water tower construction project in southern Rock County. 

“The pictures do not show it very well, but this hole is massive and so is foundation,” Holtz shared. 

Chamber and CVB photo contest winners feature city of Luverne, local prairie scenery

The Luverne Area Chamber and the Convention and Visitors Bureau recently announced the winners of the September-October CVB Photo Contest. 

Cardinal boys hockey team remains unbeaten at 10-0

Luverne took down three teams, one in overtime, to remain unbeaten this season in boys’ hockey action.

The Cardinals walked all over Windom beating the Eagles 9-1 Tuesday, Dec. 16, at home.
