Lynn places fifth in 1,600 for AHS Saturday

By John RittenhouseAn Adrian High School athlete ran a strong race at the Minnesota State Class A Track and Field Championships staged at the National Sports Center in Blaine Saturday.Morgan Lynn, an AHS eighth-grader, placed fifth in a 15-runner field during the girls’ 1,600-meter run.Lynn turned in a time of 5:15.13, lowering a school record she established earlier this year in the same event.Lac qui Parle Valley sophomore Nikki Swenson won the state title with a time of 4:56.92.Although this was Lynn’s first appearance at the state track meet, she did qualify for the state cross country meet (finishing ninth) individually last fall.Being involved in state competition in November may have played in her favor Saturday."She was seeded 15th and placed fifth, so she ran a really strong race," said Adrian co-coach Doug Petersen."Correct pacing was the key. It’s easy to go up there (to Blaine), start out fast and run yourself out of the race early. She listened to directions well, then went out and ran a good time that gave her a great place."
