To the Editor:
With the election coming up, I think the people need to address our State Senator Bill Weber and also our State Rep. Joe Schomacker by asking them a question as to who they are working for. Is it "We" the people” or are theyworking for the corporation?
A few months ago I sent an email to Mr. Weber without any reply at all. I contacted Mr. Schomacker just before the Covid started, and he did reply. We did meet and I addressed the issue I had with him asking for a reply. To this date I have had no response from him, so acouple of weeks ago I sent him a text asking for a response, but as of todayno response.
I believe they need to be held accountable for their actions. If anyone does not know what I am talking about and saying about the corporation, look up the Act of 1871 and I think you will be very surprised at what you read.
I want to say I am neither a Republican nor a Democrat as under the real organic Constitution there is no such thing. They do not have to listen to us as they work for the Corporation and they are there to make money for the Corporation through their statutes, laws, regulations and taxes.
I would also ask that you look up the Organic Constitution, Bill of Rights see how many rights we have as we were stripped of our rights and given privileges which slowly started over 150 years ago.
Our country is in shambles and we can call them home and deal with them but the people need to stand up.

Decisions to not wear a face mask during this COVID-19 pandemic have become the norm, as I have noticed. In many parts of our region, however, many folks are firm believers in the face mask. They had learned the facts of life the difficult way, having contracted the virus and survived.
Common sense and the denying of the recommended precautions by the medical field (CDC) seems to be the norm for some folks. Some folks have learned the hard way that when a virus attacks, there are no warnings. It is like the fog rolling in at night-time and coming to visit. This visitor is a silent stalker, providing much misery in this disaster. It strikes without any consideration of one’s political or religious beliefs, 24/7.
I think it is important for all of us to remember that when in close contact with others to have an approved face mask properly in place. I understand, in Rock County, we have 297 total cases and 52 new cases in the last seven days. That is a 22.4-percent increase. This is according to the Star Herald on Oct. 22, 2020.
When folks travel to this area, or go to other places, the virus tends to tag along for the ride, affecting others. This reminds me of the polio virus many years ago when I was a small child. Many folks across our nation thought nothing of it until it struck individuals near to them.
The folks were indifferent, and as time went by, we all changed our habits. We pitched in and rode the disaster through. Thinking back is easy for us older folks, as we have lived through many disasters.
This uncontrolled virus will be with us for a long time as we have been told. To be part of a solution is much better than being a cause of any further spread. Surely, if we cooperate and follow CDC precautions, we can outlast this temporary disaster. Scientists are currently working on a vaccine, and when a solution does arrive, we can resume life in its fullest.

Several years ago the city of Steen adopted the same ordinances that Hardwick and Beaver Creek did to help clean up the town. I was a council member then and also city clerk.
We spent a lot of money on this, even having our city lawyer send out several letters to get this cleanup done. Residents responded.
Then it came time for the mayor to clean up his property. Two council members who have been in card club with the mayor along with taking motorcycle rides together for years decided that we were not going to enforce these ordinances anymore.
Why did we waste all of this money? The mayor proceeded to chew me out, AGAIN, using foul language as was his custom. I resigned the next morning.
This brings us to election time. The deadline to register to be put on the ballot was in the Announcer. Do any of the five council members see this? Evidently not.
The mayor and his two buddies all have over 15 years on the council. So nobody gets on the ballot. There are supposed to be two write-in slots on the ballots. The clerk is paying such little attention that he tells Ashley Kurtz there is only one write-in for council member. The mayor told me, “that the top two vote getters would be elected.” Sounds fair but it isn’t. The second person who would have gotten my vote won’t be counted.
Finally, the council outdid themselves. They used city money, letterhead etc. to send a letter to each Steen resident to announce that they had screwed up but that the mayor and two council members who were up for re-election were willing to be write-in candidates for the upcoming election.
I haven’t looked this up but I am guessing that is also very illegal. Thought our elections here in Rock County were safe, but I guess with ineptitude by elected officials you can screw up anything.
