MINUTES OF THE SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF 
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2184, 
ROCK COUNTY, LUVERNE, MINNESOTA  
A regular meeting of the Board of Education, ISD #2184, was held in the District Office on May 26, 2022, at 7:00 p.m.
The following members were present: Katie Baustian, Jodi Bosch, Eric Hartman, Tim Jarchow, Reva Sehr, Jeff Stratton, and David Wrigg. Also present: Craig Oftedahl, Jason Phelps, Ryan Johnson, Stacy Gillette, Tyler Reisch, Griffin Jarchow, Averill Sehr, and Mavis Fodness – Rock County Star Herald.
Chairperson Eric Hartman opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance.  It was noted there is an addendum to the agenda. Motion made by Jarchow, second by Sehr, to approve the agenda with addendum. Motion unanimously carried.
Marie Atkinson-Smeins, Elementary School Counselor, reviewed the programs and lessons she taught this past school year. She also reviewed her goals.
Administrative reports were given.
Motion made by Bosch, second by Baustian, to approve the April 28, 2022, School Board meeting minutes as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Jarchow, second by Sehr, to approve the following donations:
Sanford Health $250.00 for the Robotics Team
Hardwick American Legion $3,056.00 for flag pole for East side of 
school (Cardinal Flag)
Hardwick American Legion $2,746.95 for athletic equipment
(volleyball nets)
Hardwick American Legion $1,475.00 for picnic tables for the East side of school
Motion unanimously carried.
Business Manager Tyler Reisch reviewed the district bills with the School Board. Motion made by Wrigg, second by Stratton, to approve payment of the District and Student Activity Fund bills as presented in the amount of $353,334.05 with payroll in the amount of $1,024,064.66 for a grand total of $1,377,398.71. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Baustian, second by Sehr, to receive the student activity report showing the balances as of April 30, 2022. Motion unanimously carried.
Elementary Principal Stacy Gillette reviewed the 2022-2023 Local Literacy Plan for grades K-3. Motion by Bosch, second by Wrigg, to approve the plan as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Baustian, second by Sehr, to set the date for fuel quotations to be received as July 15, 2022, at 11:00 a.m. We are required by law to post the request for quotations for at least 30 days. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Bosch, to approve an additional summer contract for Traci Davis for Elementary reading and math program for 32 hours. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Sehr, to approve Student Assurance Services for the 2022-2023 student accident insurance. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Bosch, second by Baustian, to approve the 2022-2023 School Board meeting schedule as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Jarchow, second by Stratton, to approve the following summer curriculum work:
Elementary reading curriculum - 20 teachers - 6 hours @ $25/hour
Elementary math curriculum - 20 teachers - 4 hours @ $25/hour
Junior Kindergarten curriculum - 1 teacher - 30 hours @ $25/hour
Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Baustian, second by Bosch, to approve the Triennial Assessment and Review of Policy 533 - Wellness Policy as submitted by the Policy Committee. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sehr, second by Stratton, to accept the resignation of Eric Arnold as MS Technology Teacher and Assistant Girls Tennis coach effective at the end of the 2021-2022 school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Baustian, to approve the hiring of Dana Hoogendoorn as Community Education Administrative Assistant effective June 13, 2022. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sehr, second by Stratton, to approve the hiring of Cade Wenninger as C-squad baseball coach. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Bosch, second by Baustian, to approve the hiring of Joe Stearns as Assistant Speech coach. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Baustian, to approve the hiring of Sandee (Sam) Goldsmith as Social Studies teacher for a salary of $64,477.00 beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Baustian, second by Bosch, to approve the hiring of Lindsey Schomacker as Special Education teacher for a salary of $55,042.00 beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Jarchow, second by Wrigg, to approve the hiring of Traci Davis as Special Education teacher for a salary of $43,727.00 beginning with the 2022-2023 school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sehr, second by Bosch, to accept the resignation of Samantha Steensma as Paraprofessional and MS Volleyball Coach effective May 27, 2022.  Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Baustian, second by Sehr, to approve the hiring of Janine Debates as Custodian beginning June 6, 2022. Motion unanimously carried.
Committee reports were given. The Policy Committee met to review the Wellness Policy and also the Advertising Policy. The Personnel Committee met with the Custodial team for negotiation of a new contract. They will meet again in June.  
The upcoming meeting dates were reviewed. Motion made by Jarchow, second by Stratton, to adjourn the meeting. Motion unanimously carried.
