ISD #2184 School Board meets Jan. 27

MINUTES OF THE REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2184, ROCK COUNTY, LUVERNE, MINNESOTA.A regular meeting of the Board of Education ISD #2184 was held in the Middle/High School Library on Thursday, January 27, 2005, at 7:30 p.m.The following members were present: Vicki Baartman, Colleen Deutsch, Dan Kopp, and Bill Stegemann. Absent: Laura Herman, Cary Radisewitz, and Becky Walgrave. Also present: Superintendent Vince Schaefer, Marlene Mann, Gary Fisher, Gordie Hansen, Renee Sawtelle, Kate Baustian, Dawn Frankenhoff, Emily Crabtree, Dan Amborn, Kayla Jarchow, and Lori Ehde – Rock County Star Herald, and Matt Crosby – K101/KQAD Radio. The meeting was called to order by Vice-Chairperson Bill Stegemann. Superintendent Schaefer gave announcements. Motion Kopp, second by Deutsch, to approve the agenda. Motion unanimously carried. Renee Sawtelle presented information to the Board regarding the charge to non-profit organizations such as Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts for use of the facilities after school. Kate Baustian, representing Parents: Partners in Education, submitted a proposal to the school board for second and third grade swimming lessons for 2005 and 2006. Administrative reports were given. Motion by Kopp, second by Deutsch, to approve the minutes of January 5, 2005, with one correction of the Oath of Office being read to newly elected members Baartman and Herman – not Baartman and Deutsch. Motion unanimously carried. Motion by Kopp, second by Baartman, to approve payment of the district bills in the amount of $1,057,438.15. Motion unanimously carried. Motion by Deutsch, second by Kopp, to receive the Student Activity Report showing the balances as of December 31, 2004. Motion unanimously carried.Motion by Deutsch, second by Kopp, to approve the annuity companies as presented. Motion unanimously carried.Member Kopp introduced the RESOLUTION DIRECTING THE ADMINISTRATION TO MAKE RECOMMENDATIONS FOR REDUCTIONS IN PROGRAMS AND POSITIONS AND REASONS THEREFORE and moved its adoption. The motion for adoption of the resolution was duly seconded by Member Baartman, and upon vote being taken thereon, the following voted in favor thereof: Baartman, Deutsch, Kopp, and Stegemann, and the following voted against the same: none; whereupon said resolution was declared duly passed and adopted. Motion by Kopp, second by Deutsch, to approve the Rock County Interagency Early Intervention Agreement. Motion unanimously carried. Motion by Deutsch, second by Baartman to accept the Parents: Partners in Education swimming lesson proposal as presented. Motion unanimously carried. Marlene Mann, Business Manager, presented the revised 2004-2005 budget. Revenues $11,667,292.00 Expenditures $11,895,829.00Deficit Spending ($228,537.00)Motion by Kopp, second by Deutsch, to approve the revised budget as presented. Motion unanimously carried. Marlene also presented a projected 2005-2006 budget for the board. Revenues $11,352,220.00 Expenditures $11,849,582.00 Deficit Spending ($497,362.00)Motion by Deutsch, second by Baartman, to approve the Preliminary Seniority List for Certified Staff. Motion unanimously carried. Motion by Deutsch, second by Kopp, to approve the Custodial Staff Seniority List. Motion unanimously carried. Motion by Deutsch, second by Baartman, to approve the Paraprofessional Seniority List. Motion unanimously carried. Motion by Baartman, second by Kopp, to approve the Early Childhood Family Education/School Readiness/Discovery Time Seniority List. Motion unanimously carried. Motion by Kopp, second by Deutsch, to approve the Alternative School Seniority List. Motion unanimously carried. Motion by Kopp, second by Deutsch, to approve the hiring of Brenda VanderZiel as a special education paraprofessional. Motion unanimously carried. Committee reports were given.The upcoming meeting dates were reviewed.Motion by Kopp, second by Baartman, to adjourn the meeting. Motion unanimously carried.
