MINUTES OF REGULAR SCHOOL BOARD MEETING OF 
INDEPENDENT SCHOOL DISTRICT NO. 2184, 
ROCK COUNTY, LUVERNE, MINNESOTA  
A regular meeting of the Board of Education, ISD #2184, was held in the District Office on April 28, 2022, at 7:00 p.m.
The following members were present: Eric Hartman, Reva Sehr, Jeff Stratton, and David Wrigg. Absent: Katie Baustian, Jodi Bosch, and Tim Jarchow. Also present: Craig Oftedahl, Jason Phelps, Ryan Johnson, Ann Rigney, Tyler Reisch, Brooklyn VerSteeg, and Mavis Fodness – Rock County Star Herald.
Chairperson Eric Hartman opened the meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance. Motion made by Sehr, second by Wrigg, to approve the agenda as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Administrative reports were given.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Sehr, to approve the minutes of the March 24, 2022, school board meeting as presented. Motion unanimously carried. Motion made by Wrigg, second by Sehr, to approve the minutes of the April 14, 2022, school board meeting as presented. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Stratton, to accept the following donations:
C & B Operations – contribution to new lift in Industrial Tech area
Professional Ag Marketing – $1,000 donation to the Robotics Team
Sandy Klein - $1,250 donation to the Boys and Girls Golf Teams
Motion unanimously carried.
Business Manager Tyler Reisch reviewed the school district bills with the School Board. Motion made by Sehr, second by Stratton, to pay the school district and student activity bills as presented in the amount of $788,189.97; and payroll in the amount of $1,110,953.06; for a total of $1,899,143.03. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Stratton, second by Wrigg, to receive the Student Activity report showing the balances as of March 31, 2022. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Stratton, second by Sehr, to accept the Blue Cross/Blue Shield Health and Hospitalization Insurance rates as presented effective July 1, 2022. This reflects an 8% increase. Motion unanimously carried.  
Motion by Sehr, second by Stratton, to approve the extended summer contracts as presented for Special Education services, technology, reading and math enrichment, agriculture and band. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sehr, second by Stratton, to approve the request from Wade Hiller, Technology Coordinator, to hire a Summer Technology Support person to work 30 hours per week for approximately 10 weeks. Motion unanimously carried.
Discussion was held regarding the scheduled May 12 School Board work session. Superintendent Oftedahl will be out of town. Motion made by Sehr, second by Stratton, to cancel the May 12 work session. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Sehr, to accept the resignation of Bailey Cowell as Assistant Baseball Coach effective May 5, 2022. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sehr, second by Wrigg, to approve a medical leave of absence request from Aaron Perkins, Chemistry/Physics teacher, beginning April 28, 2022, for the remainder of the school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Stratton, to approve the hiring of Megan MacCormack as long-term substitute teacher for Aaron Perkins beginning April 28, 2022, for the remainder of the school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Stratton, second by Sehr, to approve the hiring of Peyten Elbers as Elementary teacher for a salary of $43,727.00 to begin with the 2022-2023 school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Sehr, to approve the hiring of Matt Fodness as Agriculture teacher and FFA advisor for a salary of $45,276.00 to begin with the 2022-2023 school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Stratton, second by Sehr, to approve the hiring of Sara Weber as English Language Learner teacher for a salary of $64,477.00 to begin with the 2022-2023 school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Stratton, to accept the retirement of Nyla Sohl, Paraprofessional, effective May 27, 2022. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Stratton, second by Sehr, to approve a maternity leave request from Kellsie Rivas, Paraprofessional, beginning April 25 for the remainder of the school year. Motion unanimously carried.  
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Sehr, to accept the resignation of Lucas Larson, Social Studies teacher and Boys Tennis Head coach, effective at the end of the 2021-2022 school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Stratton, to accept the resignation of Travis Bullerman as Middle School Football coach effective at the end of the 2021-2022 school year. Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Wrigg, second by Sehr, to approve a request from Southwest Minnesota State University for Sarah Spieker to complete 12 weeks of student teaching with Amy Sahly, High School English teacher, beginning August 29, 2022.  Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sehr, second by Stratton, to approve the hiring of Tami Bergman as Middle/High School Administrative Assistant effective May 16, 2022.  Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Stratton, second by Sehr, to accept the retirement of Deb Ward, Special Education teacher, effective at the end of the 2021-2022 school year.  Motion unanimously carried.
Motion made by Sehr, second by Stratton, to accept the retirement of Rod Rosin, Custodian, effective July 29, 2022. Motion unanimously carried.
Committee reports were given. Member Wrigg reported on the Elementary Counselor Advisory Committee meeting. 
The upcoming meeting dates were reviewed. Motion made by Sehr, second by Stratton, to adjourn the meeting. Motion unanimously carried.
