Hills turns triple play against Ellsworth

Submitted storyThe Exchange Bank of Hills Town Softball team edged Ellsworth 6-5 in a recent Border League game.With the score knotted at five in the sixth inning, Greg Van Wyhe capped a two-hit game by driving in the game-winning run with a two-out double.Tim Bosch picked up his first pitching win of the season and helped his cause by slapping two hits, including one home run, during a two-RBI effort.Bosch fanned eight batters, surrendered 10 hits and walked one batter during a six-inning pitching stint.Chuck Hoffman tossed a scoreless seventh inning to earn his first save.Hills turned a triple play during the third inning of the game.With Ellsworth runners on first and second, Matt Metzger fielded a one-hop grounder near second base. Metzger tagged the runner out heading to third, flipped the ball to second baseman Van Wyhe to force out the runner heading to second, and Van Wyhe threw the ball to first baseman Hoffman in time to get out the player who hit the ball.Who’s hot?B.J. Boom has hit home runs in three of the team’s last six games, raising his average to .424.Dan Huisman pitched Hills to a second-place finish during the Fourth of July Tournament in Hills. He fanned 19 batters and yielded two hits during a 4-1 win over Ellsworth. Huisman recorded eight strikeouts and limited Steen to five hits in a 5-1 win. Northwest Iowa defeated Huisman 4-2 in the title game.Who’s not hot?Hoffman fanned during his first three official trips to the plate this season.Toby Smythe is 2-13 at the plate in the last five games, with his average dipping to .316 for the season.
