H-BC-E-E boys place second at RCI Thursday

By John RittenhouseThe Hills-Beaver Creek-Ellsworth-Edgerton cross country runners prepared for the upcoming Red Rock Conference meet by competing at the Adrian Invitational Tuesday.H-BC-E-E’s girls’ junior varsity team ran extremely well in Adrian, placing second to Canby by a 29-44 margin.Amanda Tilstra, Mya Mann and Jill Weitgenant led the Patriots by placing third, fifth and sixth with respective 18:13, 18:31 and 18:36 times during the junior varsity run.Rayna Sandoval and Amanda Connors placed 14th and 20th with 19:14 and 20:17 efforts.Patriot coach Tom Goehle didn’t have complete results from the boys’ junior varsity race, but he said John Sandbulte placed 17th in 16:31 to lead the Patriots.Dustin Verhey led the H-BC-E-E boys’ junior varsity team by placing second in 5:50.Cody Penning (22nd in 6:21) and Grant Hoogendoorn (27th in 6:26) are the other H-BC-E-E runners Goehle had information on at the boys’ junior varsity level.The Patriots were unable to field a complete team for the boys’ varsity race.Tyler Bush placed a solid third with a time of 17:21.Kale Wiertzema finished 37th in 19:24, Todd Alberty 39th in 19:32 and Derek Haak 42nd in 20:07 to round out H-BC-E-E’s varsity entries.The Patriots will run at the RRC meet in Slayton Tuesday.
