Girls complete .500 SWC campaign

By John RittenhouseThe Luverne girls golf team experienced mixed results during a three-event week.The Cardinals posted a five-shot win in Pipestone Thursday and placed second at the nine-team Worthington Invitational Tournament Saturday.Luverne lost a Southwest Conference match in Jackson Tuesday.The 15-4 Cardinals host Murray County Central and Tracy-Milroy-Balaton for a triangular today. Luverne plays in the SWC-South Central Conference Invitational Saturday and plays a match in Adrian Tuesday.JCC 215, Luverne 216The Cardinals finished SWC play with a 3-3 record after dropping a one-shot decision in Jackson Tuesday.JCC’s Michele Edlin carded a 46 to lead the Huskies during the match.Brittany Boeve shot a 51 to lead Luverne, while Nikki Van Dyk and Alyssa Klein contributed 53- and 54-stroke efforts to the team tally,Lindsey Severtson and Kaia Nowatzki shot 61- and 65-stroke rounds without influencing the scoring.Worthington inviteThe Cardinals came up two strokes short of sharing the team championship with Fairmont during Saturday’s nine-team tournament played at the Worthington Country Club.Fairmont edged LHS 372-374 to take top honors in team competition.New Ulm (323), Marshall (4006), Worthington (410), Fulda (431), Redwood Valley (433), Pipestone (435) and Mankato West (453) capped the field.Alyssa Klein placed individually to lead the Cards to their second-place effort. Klein shot a 90, giving her fourth place in the individual standings. New Ulm’s Alix Bergmann won the individual title with an 80.Boeve, Van Dyk and Jessica Klein added 93-, 94- and 97-stroke rounds to Luverne’s team tally. Lindsey Severtson and Em Juhl shot 103- and 126-stroke efforts without influencing the scoring.Luverne 194,Pipestone 199The Cardinals beat the Arrows for the second time this season when the teams squared off in Pipestone Thursday.With Boeve shooting a 46 to set the pace, Luverne posted a five-shot win over Pipestone in a non-conference match.Jessica Klein and Van Dyk added 49-stroke rounds to the winning effort, while Alyssa Klein chipped in a 50.Juhl and Nowatzki shot 54- and 63-stroke rounds without influencing the scoring.Stacy Oye led the Arrows with a 48.
