Still time to enter the reunion paradeThe Chamber wants you to know there is still time to get your entry into the All-School Reunion parade, which starts at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 30.Entries can include company vehicles, antique cars, new cars or whatever else your imagination allows.Perhaps you may want to get a reunion entry together with the members of your class. One class that will be represented will be the class of ’34. Marguerite (Norton) Hoh, Helen (Ormseth) Heiden, Vivian (Stamman) Peterson and Ruth (Nielson) Eberlein, all current residents of Luverne, will be representing their class Saturday morning. I’m not sure if the car they will be riding in will also be from the class of ’34. Probably not.A couple of weeks ago I listed several of the things you can do over the all-school weekend, but there was one that I neglected to mention. From 1 to 3 p.m. on Sunday the new Sioux Valley Luverne Medical Center will be open for tours for everyone who hasn’t had an opportunity to get a look at Luverne’s latest addition. There is always time for golfThis year’s all-school reunion golf tournament will be played Friday, Saturday and Sunday.Any time that works out for you, make your own tee-times and set up your own groups. When you get to the course, tell employees that you would also like to participate in the all-school tournament. After your round is over, be sure to turn in your card so it can be tallied with the rest of your classmates. The results will be in the Star Herald the following week.New additions to the historical barn at the fairgroundsThe collection of antique farm equipment continues to grow at the Historical Society’s Fitzer barn on the fairgrounds. Some of the most recently donated items include:
Hayes corn planter
Restored IHC single row cultivator
Antique house moving equipment
20-foot windmillThe windmill will be displayed outside, along with the 2nd annual old tractor show.Everyone with an old tractor that they would like to show is encouraged to bring it to the Fitzer barn. The show will take place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, August 6. 60 years for Rock Soil and WaterThe Rock Soil and Water Conservation District is celebrating their 60th anniversary this week.To honor the occasion they will be holding an open house from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, July 29, at the USDA Service Center.Food and refreshments will be served.Be sure to get your water testedIf you rely on well water, getting it tested for nitrates at the Rock County Fair is something you should take advantage of.This year Doug Bos of the Land Management office will be at the LMO booth from 1 to 7 p.m. Friday, August 5. The process is simple. Fill a clean glass jar or plastic baggie with 8 ounces of the water you want tested. Make sure you let the water run for 5 to 10 seconds before you fill your container. If you have a drinking water or soft water system, you can bring in "before" and "after" samples to find out how those systems are affecting your H2O.Attention Class of ’79I have come into possession of a 1979 class ring, which recently turned up at a rummage sale in a nearby town. The ring is a men’s military style ring with the initials RRS on the inside. No need to contact Randy Slieter to tell him about it. I already did, and he says it’s not his.Publisher Roger Tollefson can be reached by e-mail at tolly@star-herald.com
