Psalm 147:7 says, Sing out your thanks to Him, sing praises to God.”

Nothing makes you more aware of God’s presence than praising him.

There’s a story about a woman who struggled to believe. She said, “When I go to church with my family and sing a song, during the song I’ll believe in God — for five minutes. But when the singing stops, my doubts begin.”

How wonderful it is that singing the Lord’s praises focuses our minds on who he is and what he has done for us in Christ. And that floods our soul with peace.

The Bible encourages us to sing our praises to God. But what if you feel like you can’t sing? It also says to make a joyful noise.

Maybe for some of us it’s difficult to carry a tune, but you can still sing to the Lord. Some might feel like a “prison singer” — always behind a few bars and never having the right key. But that’s okay! Your voice should be cultivated and exercised. Come to God’s house and join fellow believers in singing his praises. What matters is that it comes from the heart!

Where else can we sing to God? Everywhere. Since he is with us wherever we are, you can sing God’s praises in your car, at the office, and in your home. You can sing your praises in the shower, while washing dishes, working in the garden, or even playing golf. You can sing to the Lord and share your faith while putting your kids to bed. You can sing when you get up in the morning. The Christian faith is a singing faith. Our victorious Savior Jesus is most worthy of our praise.

We sing with our lips, but we serve with our lives. Psalm 100:2 says, “Serve the Lord with gladness.” When we serve the Lord with a thankful heart, it’s not some chore or obligation. It’s a joyful privilege! The motive for serving God, the motive for using my talents and gifts to help others, is thankfulness for his love and salvation.

If God never did another single thing in your life, you’d still owe him everything. You might think, “I worked hard for what I have.” But where did you get your talent and abilities? From the Lord. Where did you get your energy? Your health? Your mind? God. Opportunities? God. Freedom? Faith? Heaven? Our gracious Savior. Everything we have is a gift of God. So let’s thank him through singing and grateful service for all he has done in our lives.

We also give thanks to God by sharing. Every time you tell someone the Good News about your Savior, you’re thanking God. Isaiah 12:4 says, “Thank the Lord, praise his name. Tell the world of his wondrous love.” We have the greatest news ever – God loves you and forgives you for Jesus’ sake! The Lord wants you and all people to be saved!

Everybody needs Jesus and his peace. We have the awesome privilege of sharing God’s salvation with our family, friends and strangers. Give thanks also by sharing!
