The following was printed in the Rock County Herald on Feb. 12, 1915:Rest Room will not be closed Prompt and generous response is made to call for donations to continue its maintenanceOnly a very few business men refuse to contributeSoliciting committee meets with but few rebuffs in campaign for annual subscriptions to needed fundThat Luverne’s public rest room for women will not be closed, but will be maintained indefinitely, is now assured beyond question. The call for donations to assist in the expense of maintaining the rest room has been met in a most generous manner by the business and professional men and women, and sufficient funds subscribed to put the matter on a substantial basis. At the public meeting called by the Herald two weeks ago to consider the matter of raising the money necessary to keep the rest room open, a soliciting committee composed of Mayor J.W. Hawkinson, S.A. Coss, Wm. Jacobsen and J.A. Harroun was appointed. This committee has visited nearly every business and professional man and woman in the city, and except in very few cases the stipulated subscription was cheerfully made. A stated amount per month from each one was asked, said amount to be paid in advance semi-annually, and in most cases the full amount requested was subscribed. In only a few instances was any donation refused. Up to yesterday morning the committee had raised nearly $400, as the committee still had several places to visit it is confidently expected that the $400 mark will at least be reached. This will more than reach the annual expense borne by the business and professional men. It is expected that the solicitation of funds will be finished in a few days and next week the Herald will publish a list of all contributors and the amounts donated, so that the people of Rock County, for the benefit of whom the room in particular is maintained, may know who is contributing to the worthy cause. Donations to the Rock County Historical Endowment Fund can be sent to the Rock County Historical Society, P.O. Box 741, Luverne, MN 56156.Mann welcomes correspondence sent to mannmade@iw.net.
