By John RittenhouseSeventeen members of the Blue Mound Figure Skating Club tested their skills at the Blaine Frosty Blades Skating Competition staged at Schwann’s Super Rink Friday and Saturday.Five members of the Luverne delegation secured competition championships to highlight the club’s appearance at the two-day event.Krissy Eitreim, Brianna McCarthy, Tommy McCarthy, Gretchen Schneekloth and Katie Schearer earned event titles in Blaine.Eitreim and Shearer won events at the Freestyle 6 level.Eitreim, who finished fourth in interpretive, third in compulsory and fifth in program events, won the spotlight dramatic title. Shearer, who finished second in program and fourth in spotlight light entertainment, won the compulsory and interpretive crowns.Schneekloth and Brianna McCarthy found success at the Freestyle 3 level, where they took top honors in the couples spotlight low competiton.Schneekloth also won the footwork event. She placed second in compulsory and interpretive, third in program, third in spotlight dramatic and placed third with Brianna McCarthy in the couples jump and spin medium competition.McCarthy placed first in spotlight light entertainment, finished fourth in program and placed third with her brother, Tommy, in family spotlight.Tommy McCarthy won program, compulsory and interpretive titles at the Freestyle 2 level. He placed fifth in spotlight light entertainment.Here is a look at the rest of the places earned by local skaters at last weekend’s competition.Freestyle 6: Sabrina Kingery, fourth in compulsory, fifth in spotlight dramatic, sixth in program. Nicole Willers, fifth in compulsory and sixth in program and footwork.Freestyle 5: Shannon DeBoer, second in spotlight light entertainment, sixth in program, compulsory and footwork; Marissa Biever, second in spotlight light entertainment, fifth in program, sixth in compulsory. Jessica Willers, thrid in couples spotlight high with Sarah Ailts, fifth in spotlight dramatic, sixth in footwork.Freestyle 4: Sarah Ailts, third in program.Freestyle 3: Courtney Thompson, second in spotlight dramatic and fourth in compulsory.Freestyle 1: Autumn Wenzel, fourth in stroking and sixth in program. Katelyn Breen, fourth in program and spotlight light entertainment. Briana Erickson, second in compulsory and spotlight light entertainment, fourth in program and fifth in stroking.Delta: Shelby Kingery, second in stroking and spotlight light entertainment, fifth in program and second in jump and spin low with Kynzie Smedsrud.
