The Hills-Beaver Creek girls’ 4-by-100-meter relay ran the top time in the Section 3A track meet on Thursday afternoon in Pipestone.
The team of Abbie Harris, Brynn Rauk, Layla Deelstra and Brynn Bakken ran a 51.68 to qualify for the state track meet this week.
Bakken, just a seventh-grader, qualified in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dash. She ran a personal best 12.71 seconds in the 100, which is her third-best qualifying time going into the state meet. Her time of 26.91 places her in the Top 10 in the 200-meter dash going into the final meet.
The state meet is at St. Michael-Albertville High School, with prelims starting on Thursday afternoon and final competition on Friday afternoon.
Senior Kenadie Fick placed in the Top 6 in both of her open events. She finished fourth in the 1,600-meter run with a time of 5:48.35, just two places away from advancing to state. She also finished sixth in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:35.98 to finish off her great career at H-BC.
On the boys’ side, a few Top 6 finishers just missed out on qualifying for the state meet.
Liam Raymon finished fifth in the triple jump with a distance of 41-5.75.
The boys’ 4-by-200-meter relay team also just missed the qualifying mark by placing fourth with a time of 1:36.23. This relay was run by Ty Bundesen, Luke Fuerstenberg, Eli Taubert and Cooper Gehrke.
As a team, the girls finished seventh and the boys finished 17th in the section.
