The Hills-Beaver Creek Lady Pates 4-by-100 meter relay team consisting of Abbie Harris, Brynn Rauk, Layla Deelstra and Brynn Bakken traveled to St. Michael-Albertville High School Thursday afternoon to compete in the Class A State Track and Field Meet.
Bakken also qualified for the 100- and 200-meter dashes.
The top nine qualifiers in the preliminary races Thursday afternoon moved on to the finals on Friday afternoon.
Bakken ran the first race of the day Thursday afternoon in the 100-meter dash where she was able to qualify for the finals with a time of 12.80.
The 4-by-100 team was also able to qualify for finals after beating their own school record with a time of 51.04.
Bakken finished off the day by just missing out on finals in the 200-meter dash with an 11th place finish and a time of 27.06.
Bakken ran in the 100-meter finals where she ended up with a seventh-place finish in the Minnesota Class A State meet with a time of 12.79. It was a very tight race from first place through ninth place.
Bakken finished just .37 seconds behind the first-place finisher in the state, marking a significant accomplishment for the Lady Pates seventh-grader.
The 4-by-100 team also placed seventh in the finals Friday afternoon. Harris, Rauk, Deelstra and Bakken once again upped their own school record in another tightly contested race with a time of 50.98 seconds.
This was just .9 seconds behind first place.
It was a very impressive feat with H-BC being one of the smallest schools at the state meet.
A team consisting of a seventh-grader (Bakken), an eighth-grader (Harris), and two sophomores (Rauk and Deelstra) put together quite the season and gave the Patriot fans a lot to cheer for.
