Virginia “Pat” JoAnne Demuth was born on Sept. 14, 1933, to Harold and Josephine (Goeppel) Hansen in Pipestone, Minn. Her christened name didn’t suit her dad so she was called Pat from that day forward. She grew up on the Buffalo Ridge farm west of Lake Wilson, Minn. Her transportation to country school was on her horse, Blackie. Dismounting was frequent to get across the railroad tracks. Pat graduated from Lake Wilson High School in 1951. She was united in marriage to Edward J. Demuth on April 26, 1951, and the couple made their home in Pipestone, and later moved to Hector, Minn., before settling in Hills, Minn. The couple was blessed with five children. Pat co-owned Demuth Hardware for 17 years in Hills, then worked at the Hills Telephone Company, Dr. Keith Winter Eye Care in Slayton, Minn., and later Carlson Corner at Lake Shetek. Ed preceded her in death on March 1, 1991. Pat remained at Lake Shetek, Minn., before moving to Luverne, Minn. Pat gained her heavenly wings on Sunday, Oct. 4, 2026, at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills at 93 years and 20 days.
Faith, family, music, and singing in the church choir were her greatest joys. Pat learned to play piano after raising her children. She enjoyed dancing, sewing, gardening, bridge club, photography, and golfing. Her favorite story to tell was how her golf bag and clubs once went over the bridge railing on the course and her partner fished them out. Pat was a cub scout leader, community club member, and recognized for 56 years as an American Legion Auxiliary member.
Pat is survived by her children, Patti Demuth of Mora, Minn., Kelly Demuth of Hills, Matt (Lynn) Demuth of Vernon Center, Minn., and Kerri (Brad) Holt of Brook Park, Minn.; grandchildren, Kristi (Mark) Kruger, Karson Demuth, Kati (Jamie) Koch, Kyle (Libby Cheever) Honstrom, Victoria Demuth, and Julia Demuth; great-grandchildren, Ethan Kruger, Jack Kruger, Claire Kruger, Mason Telander, Reid Telander and Aurora Demuth; former daughter-in-law, Karen Demuth; and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cherished friendships.
