Sharon Hoffman

Mugshot

Sharon Kay Hoffman, age 89, of Luverne, Minnesota, passed away peacefully on March 10, 2026.

Sharon was born on January 2, 1937, in Avoca, Minnesota, to Carl and Julia Hagen. She grew up in the Avoca area and graduated from Slayton High School in 1955.

On June 30, 1956, Sharon married her high school sweetheart, Melvin Hoffman, in Avoca, Minnesota.

Together they shared nearly seventy years of marriage and built a life centered around their family. The couple made their home near Luverne, Minnesota, where they raised their children and cared for their acreage together. After her children were raised, Sharon started working as a Nursing Aide and then a Med Aide at the Tuff Memorial Home.

Sharon loved watching the birds, tending to her strawberries and raspberries, and spending time outside. Sharon also enjoyed square dancing, hosting card parties, quilting and sewing, and supporting Mel’s car restoration hobby.

She took pride in caring for the couple’s acreage and could often be found outside clearing the grove or helping Mel mow their large lawn. More than anything, Sharon loved her family and especially cherished time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Mel Hoffman (2025), infant son Daniel (1964) and son Timothy (1968); infant grandson Daniel (1988); brothers Robert and Del, and sister Addie. She is survived by her sister, Carolyn Wilson of Fort Myers, Florida; children, Steve (Terri) Hoffman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Randy (Joni) Hoffman of Brandon, South Dakota; David (Sherri) Hoffman of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; Terry Hoffman of Luverne, Minnesota; and Paula (Bill) Plant of Holyoke, Minnesota; Florida; twenty grandchildren; and twenty-three great-grandchildren.

A celebration of life for both Sharon and Mel is being planned for April 11. Memorial service will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 11, at The Dingmann Funeral Home in Luverne, officiated by Pastor Mark Eliason. A time of fellowship will be held one hour prior to the service at the funeral home on Saturday. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
