Sara Jane Van Nieuwenhuizen, age 68, of Luverne, Minnesota, died on Saturday, April 4, 2026, at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth, Minnesota.
Visitation was from 4:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, April 8, at Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, April 9, at Christian Reformed Church in Luverne. Burial will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.

Sara Jane Van Nieuwenhuizen was born on Oct. 16, 1957, in Luverne, Minnesota, to Russell and Johanna (Beyer) McClure. She was baptized at St. John Lutheran Church in Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School in 1976. On June 18, 1976, she was united in marriage to Randy Lee Van Nieuwenhuizen in Luverne. The couple moved to Bozeman, Montana in May 1983. In 1991, they returned to Luverne and Sara worked at Minnwest Bank and later at Kozlowski Insurance and worked there until she retired in December 2023.
In December 2020, Sara was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. On Saturday, April 4, 2026, Sara died at Parkview Manor Nursing Home in Ellsworth, Minnesota at 68 years, 5 months and 19 days.
Sara was a member of the Christian Reformed Church in Luverne. She enjoyed playing bingo, listening to the band GPO and going to the races in Rock Rapids, Iowa, Hartford, South Dakota and Brainerd, Minnesota. Camping was something she and Randy loved to do as well and enjoyed spending time with their camping friends.
Sara is survived by her husband, Randy; nephews, Jessie Freeborn, Shane (Blossom) Freeborn of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; great nieces and nephews, Canyon and Sylvie; and siblings, Cleon (Sue) McClure; and many other family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell and Johanna McClure; sisters, Laura Hauff, and Ruth McClure; father and mother-in-law, Don and Lorraine Van Nieuwenhuizen; and sister-in-law, Darla Van Nieuwenhuizen.
