Sandra “Sandi” Lee Bird was born on Sept. 17, 1946, in Wing, North Dakota, to Henry and Doris (Morrison) Deckert. Growing up Sandi enjoyed playing on the family farm and spending time with all of the farm animals. She attended school in Wing, graduating from high school in 1964. On November 12, 1966, Sandi was united in marriage to Ronald Bird in Bismark, North Dakota. The couple lived in Reading, Minnesota, before moving to the farm in Kenneth, Minnesota where they raised their family. Sandi worked at Pamida in Luverne, Minnesota, and also worked as a patient care nurse. She volunteered at various community events and truly loved it. After Ron’s death in July, 2024, Sandi continued to live on and care for the family farm. This is something she was very proud of. Sandi passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 8, 2026, at Mayo Clinic Hospital – St. Mary’s Campus in Rochester, Minnesota at 79 years, 5 months and 21 days.

Sandi was a member of St. Catherine Catholic Church in Luverne. She enjoyed donating her time to the church and also to her friends and was always willing to help in any way that she could. Sandi loved sewing, quilting, coffee dates with the ladies in Kenneth and watching her grandchildren play baseball, music and anything else they were involved in. She always had a smile on her face and a great sense of humor.
