Marinus Klarenbeek age 90, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, July 18, 2024, at Avera Merrill Pioneer Health Center in Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 24, 2024, at the Reformed Church of Steen, Minnesota, with Reverend Jeremy Wiersema officiating.

Burial will follow in the Eastside Cemetery of Steen, with military honors by the Hills American Legion Post No. 399 of Hills, Minnesota.

The visitation will be Tuesday, July 23, from 5 to 7 p.m., with family present at the Reformed Church of Steen.

Arrangements are in the care of the Jurrens Funeral Home of Hills.

Marinus Klarenbeek was born on September 22, 1933, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the son of Henry and Dena (Bos) Klarenbeek. He grew up on a farm near Rock Rapids and attended country school through the eighth grade. In 1950, Marinus and his family moved to a farm near Steen.

     On November 16, 1954, Marinus was drafted into the U.S. Army. He took basic training in Fort Bliss, Texas, and later was stationed in Puerto Rico for about two years.  Marinus was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army on November 15, 1956.

     Marinus started dating Mildred Eernisse from Leota, Minnesota. After he was discharged from the Army, they were married on June 19, 1957. The couple moved to and took over farming Marinus’ family’s farm near Steen.  They farmed for 67 years and later moved into Rock Rapids.

     Marinus was a member of the Reformed Church of Steen. He enjoyed his life as a farmer, gardening, his cats and dogs, riding in his side-by-side, and especially spending time with his grandkids.

Marinus is survived by his wife of 67 years, Mildred Klarenbeek of Rock Rapids, Iowa; five children, Myra (Verlyn) Eben of Harrisburg, South Dakota, and their daughter, Andrea Eben; Dale (Coreen) Klarenbeek of Rock Rapids, Iowa, and their children, Jennifer (Peter) Kuipers and Tyler Klarenbeek; Leon (fiancée Nhi To) of Chili, New York, and his children, Jeremy, Kate, and Jude Klarenbeek; Gary (Shannon) Klarenbeek of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and their daughter, Elise Klarenbeek; and Michael (Shannon) Klarenbeek of Rock Rapids, Iowa and their children, Bryce (Courtney) Vining, Brock, Makayla, and Jersie Klarenbeek; three great-grandchildren, Payton Eben, Millie Kuipers, and Coda Vining; two siblings, Arthur (Jo) Klarenbeek of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and Diana Klarenbeek of Luverne, Minnesota; two sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Zylstra of Edgerton, Minnesota, and Joann Klarenbeek of Luverne; nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Dena Klarenbeek; grandson Adam Eben; great-granddaughter Hope Vining; sister Hermina (John) Gerritsen; and two brothers, John and Henry Klarenbeek.
