Marilyn Carlson was born on Feb. 3, 1940, in Luverne, Minnesota, to Harold and Louise Staeffler Kiebach. She grew up in Luverne and graduated from Luverne High School in 1958.
On Sept. 9, 1959, she and Lyle Carlson were married at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Luverne. Following their marriage, they made their home in Maryland and Alaska while Lyle served in the United States Army. Following his discharge in 1962, they moved to a farm north of Lake Wilson, Minnesota, and raised their three children. In 1984 they retired from farming and moved to an acreage near Chandler, Minnesota.
Marilyn worked at Fey Industries in Edgerton, Minnesota, and later at Huisken Meat in Chandler, Minnesota.
In 1998 they moved to Lake Wilson, Minnesota. Lyle passed away on Dec. 23, 2002. Marilyn remained in Lake Wilson until February 2024 when she moved to Prairie View Healthcare in Tracy, Minnesota. She passed away there on Friday, Dec. 27, 2024, at the age of 84.
She was a member of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson and the Lake Wilson American Legion Auxiliary. Marilyn enjoyed playing cards and games, reading, gardening, fishing, and watching Gunsmoke.
Survivors include her three children and their spouses, Valinda and Brian Aubert of Pipestone, Minnesota, Jeff and Ramona Carlson of Hadley, Minnesota, and Leonard “Lennie” and Lisa Carlson of Lake Wilson, Minnesota; seven grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; three siblings and their spouses, Nancy and Norman Overgaard of Luverne, Minnesota, Dale and Pat Kiebach of Harrisburg, South Dakota, and Joyce and Bob Saarloss of Norwood Young America, Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Jenny Kiebach of Luverne, Minnesota; two brothers-in-law, Darrell and his wife, Sheila Carlson of Tracy, Minnesota, and Stan Suedkamp of Landfall, Minnesota; and several nieces and nephews and their families.
She is preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Lyle; grandson Aaron Aubert; great-granddaughter Ceona Mitchell; great-grandson Joshua Carlson; parents-in-law Martin and Gladys Carlson; and three sisters-in-law, Jeanne Zimmerman and husband, Gene, Audrey Voss and husband, Gerald, and Shirley Suedkamp.
Funeral service will be at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, Minnesota, on Friday, Jan. 3, 2025, at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Robert Ossefoort officiating. The organist is Darlene Bose with special music by Michelle Wood. The pallbearers are Joshua Carlson, Ashley Aubert, Kyle Carlson, Hunter Carlson, Scott Overgaard and Chad Overgaard. Interment is at Hillside Cemetery Lake Wilson, Minnesota.
Visitation will be Thursday, Jan. 2, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Lake Wilson, Minnesota, from 4-6 p.m. and one hour prior to the services on Friday. Totzke Funeral Home of Slayton is entrusted with arrangements.
