Lorna Gail Lorenzen was born to Albin and Florence (Ford) Erickson on March 23, 1928, on the family farm near Hardwick, Minnesota.
She attended school in Hardwick through the eighth grade and then went on to Luverne High School in Luverne, Minnesota, graduating in 1946. She started working at Dave’s Grocery Store in Luverne. In 1947, Lorna became employed at Tri-State Insurance in Luverne. Lorna was united in marriage to Verdell Lorenzen in June of 1947 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Luverne. The couple lived in Luverne and raised four boys. In 1972, Lorna went to work as a cook for the Luverne High School greeting, meeting, and feeding Luverne teenagers until her retirement in 1989. Verdell passed away in January of 1995. Lorna continued to live in Luverne until 2015 when she moved to Loveland, Colorado to be near her sons and their families, and sister, Cleo (Art).
On Friday, Feb. 27, 2026, Lorna died at Good Samaritan Society - Loveland Village in Loveland.
Lorna was an active member of Bethany Lutheran Church in Luverne, and was very involved with Ladies’ Aid, which were both very important to her. She wrote, “My church and Ladies’ Aid were my lifeline after Verdell passed.” She also volunteered with the RSVP Program at the Senior Center. She loved to play cards, sew, cross stitch, and do puzzles.
Lorna is survived by three sons and their wives, Dean (Debbie) of Loveland, Colorado, Rodney (Nancy) of Corryton, Tennessee, and Brian (Beth) of Loveland; daughter-in-law, Char Lorenzen of Dewey, Arizona; sister, Cleo Bloemendaal of Loveland, nine grandchildren, and eight great grandchildren. Lorna was preceded in death by her husband, Verdell; son, Darrell; sister, Beverly Woodley; brother, Roger; sister-in-law, Marleen Erickson; brother-in-law, Art Bloemendaal; and parents, Albin and Florence.
Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Monday, March 16, at Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne. Funeral service will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 17, at Bethany Lutheran Church in Luverne. Burial will follow in the Trosky Cemetery near Trosky, Minnesota.
