Gertrude Joan Teune was born November 3, 1939, in Rock Rapids, Iowa, the daughter of Henry and Gertie (Klein) Winterswyk. She was raised in Rock Rapids, and as a young girl she and her family moved back and forth from Rock Rapids, Iowa, to Chino, California, many times. She graduated from high school in Chino, California, and returned to Rock Rapids, where she worked at Lyon County Bank as a teller.

Trudy was united in marriage to Peter “Pete” Teune on her 20th birthday, November 3, 1959, in Rock Rapids, Iowa. They moved to Artesia, California until 1961, when they moved to a farm south of Steen. In 1962 they moved to their current family farm, northeast of Steen. Over the years Trudy helped with the day-to-day operation of their dairy and crop farm. She also helped her husband as a bookkeeper for Pete’s Trailer Sales. Trudy was a member of the Steen Reformed Church and was active with the women’s ministries. She enjoyed riding horses, especially in the Black Hills. She also loved sewing, crocheting, and traveling often. Trudy loved music of many kinds. She would mouth the words to her favorite songs, even when she seemed to be sleeping. She mostly enjoyed spending time with her family, preparing meals, and caring for her loved ones.

Trudy’s husband, Pete Teune, died on June 16, 2007. Trudy continued living on the family farm, and was blessed with countless trips with her sisters, and many other friends, throughout the years. Trudy continued doing her calf chores until she entered the Tuff Memorial home in 2021.
