Enore Joan Boelman was born on Sept. 23, 1930, to Fred and Jennie (Bergman) Wessels on the farm in Grand Prairie Township, Nobles County, Minn.
At a young age, she and her family moved to a farm near Hardwick, Minn., where she attended country school in Springwater Township. They later moved to a farm near Ash Creek, Minn., after her parents purchased a farm. She completed country school near Ash Creek through the eighth grade and then continued her education in Luverne, Minn., graduating from Luverne High School in 1948.
Enore was baptized and confirmed at Ebenezer Presbyterian State Line Church in Rock County, Minn., and on June 9, 1948, was united in marriage at the church to Edwin Boelman. The couple made their home on a dairy and grain farm in Kanaranzi Township, Rock County, which they operated while raising their eight children.
In addition to the farm, Enore maintained a huge garden which provided the family food throughout the year. Her children remembered having to get up at the crack of dawn to milk cows and weed the garden.
Enore remained on the farm until 1984 when she moved into Luverne. At this time, she became a daycare provider out of her home. She and her sister, Iva, also did several crafts together which they held a show together each fall, selling their creations out of Iva’s garage.
In 1996, Enore took a food service position at the Luverne Public Schools, which she thoroughly enjoyed for twenty years. She especially enjoyed the years that she was able to serve and see her grandchildren as they went through the cafeteria line.
Later in life, she also wrote a book that reflected life and the crazy things she did growing up with her eleven siblings. During her retirement years, Enore continued to enjoy gardening and raising beautiful flowers.
On Tuesday, Aug. 18, 2026, Enore died peacefully at the Tuff Memorial Home in Hills, Minnesota at the age of 95 years, 10 months, and 26 days.
Enore was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Luverne, where she belonged to the anchor fellowship group.
She was a gracious host and would always welcome people to share a cup of coffee or tea while enjoying a piece of cake or bar. Enore enjoyed caring for her family, gardening, baking and canning, and was an avid reader. She especially loved following her grandchildren and great-grandchildren in their sporting activities.
Enore’s family will remember her for her kind and gentle nature.
Enore is lovingly survived by her seven children, Barbara (Lary) Nelson of Fulda, Minn., Bruce (Carol) Boelman of Luverne, Brenda Hurley of Sioux Falls, S.D., Becky (Steve) Sehr of Luverne, Bobbie (Tracy) Boelman of Luverne, Beth (Cory) Chambers of Webster, S.D., and Bridget (Grady) Nelson of Le Mars, Iowa; grandchildren, Dulcey (Chad) Magnussen, Ryan Kuehl, Jaime Wildfeuer, Scott (Jessica) Boelman, Marc (Emilie) Boelman, Jenny Hybertson, Kari (Jake) Steenholdt, Micky (Heidi) Sehr, Jeffrey Sehr, Darcy Boelman, Nicole (Lonnie) Luethje, Sydney (Philip) Zengin, Tyler Moran, Alex Moran, Annika Nelson, Joe (Carly) Chambers, and Tara Chambers; great-grandchildren, Bryce Magnussen, Leah Magnussen, McKenzie Huisken, Taryn Evers, Emry Boelman, Kavin Boelman, Evie Boelman, Elizabeth Walberg, Kelsey Hybertson, Landon Steenholdt, Casey Sehr, Carter Sehr, Braydon Luethje, Brooklyn Luethje, Jaden Jones, and George Chambers; brothers, Lowell Wessels of Steen, Minn., Harold Wessels of Luverne, David (Bev) Wessels of Steen, and Doug Wessels of Sioux Falls; sisters-in-law, Gert Wessels of Luverne, and Theresa Wessels of Luverne; and her special Caring Friend, Carol Cook. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edwin Boelman; parents, Fred and Jennie Wessels; father- and mother-in-law, Rudolph and Tillie Boelman; son, Bryan Boelman; son-in-law, Norman Hurley; brothers, Dale Wessels, Norman Wessels, Stanley Wessels, and Darrel Wessels; sisters, Vernice Wessels, Phyllis Schouwenburg, and Iva Elbers; brothers-in-law, Donald Schouwenburg and Ed Elbers, and sisters-in-law, Sharon Wessels, Jolene Wessels, Joyce Wessels, Ginny Wessels, nephew, Mike Wessels, niece, Tina Martinez, great-nephew, Andy Wessels, great-grandniece, Lucy Sailor, aunts, uncles, and many other relatives and friends.
Funeral service was at 10:30 a.m. Monday, Aug. 24. Burial was at the Maplewood Cemetery in Luverne.
Arrangements were under the care of Hartquist Funeral Home in Luverne.
