The Redbirds exploded for twenty runs in only six innings at bat when they shut out the Jackson Bulls Friday night at Redbird Field.
Skyler Wenninger led the charge for Luverne. The first baseman was four for four at the plate, scoring four runs and tallying four RBIs. He hit a 2-RBI double in the first inning, singled in the second, singled in the third and singled in the fourth.
Serie hit his second homerun in as many games to lead off the second inning.
The Birds added five more runs in the third inning with the help of doubles by Johnson and Paquette.
Haugen added a double in the fourth inning, during which Luverne added six more runs, and Beers belted a triple in the two-run sixth inning.
“The top of our order has been crushing the ball,” Haugen said.
In all, the Redbirds tallied 18 hits in the game.
In addition to Skyler Wenninger’s four hits, Paquette had three and Lundgren, Beers, Johnson and Beyer had two hits each.

Runner promote children's mental health

Elise Telford (left) and Greg Nance came through Luverne on foot Thursday, May 26, on their 3,000-mile across-country run to raise awareness of youth mental health. Nance started in Long Island, New York, with a foot in the Atlantic Ocean, and if all goes well, he’ll reach the Pacific Coast on June 28. Along the way he’s hoping to raise money for the Run Far Foundation, which supports youth-led volunteer projects in all 50 states “to enable meaningful community service and help young people find purpose, have fun, and stay healthy.” See runfarfoundation.com for more information.

Reflections

My wife worked at a Christian School where both of our kids were students. At that time my son was in the fourth grade.
The band teacher approached my wife asking her why she didn’t tell her that our son could play the drums.
My wife responded by saying: “I didn’t know he could.”
The teacher proceeded to tell her, “Oh yes, he can play them, I just heard him.”
When she asked if anyone could play the drums, our son spoke up and said he could play. He noticed the drum kit stacked in the corner of the band room, proceeded to assemble it and played a worship song with the teacher.
Later, on the way home, my wife asked him when he learned to play the drums.
His reply was simple. “I just watched Dad.”
See, I had been playing on church worship teams for many years as well as practicing at home. And my son was watching every move I made paying close attention to where each piece would go. I had no idea he was watching me so close.
So, when the time came to do it on his own, he knew in his mind, he could reflect everything I did.
Our children watch us, our grandchildren watch us, and our students watch us. If you are a leader in the work force, your subordinates watch you. If you are the owner of a company, your employees watch you. All who watch reflect what we do.
Jesus said in Mark 9:41-42: “Truly I tell you, anyone who gives you a cup of water in my name because you belong to the Messiah will certainly not lose their reward. If anyone causes one of these little ones — those who believe in me — to stumble, it would be better for them if a large millstone were hung around their neck and they were thrown into the sea.”
When we read this verse, we may think Jesus is speaking of young children. However, he is speaking much broader. He is speaking of those who belong to him. He’s saying no service is too small, even a small gesture like offering a cup of water in His name, you will be rewarded. But it you take advantage of them, then you have serious problems.
As believers in Christ, each one of us must be an example of what it means to live a godly life, to reflect Jesus Christ in everything we do, not just what we may feel are important. Let’s remember people are watching us, even when we think no one is. Set a high example to those who reflect us, especially children.
We can either be someone’s role model or we can model their role. Which are you reflecting?
