During a city council meeting April 14 the Hills Volunteer Fire Department attended to discuss increasing their retirement.
They proposed increasing the benefit from $750 per year of service to $1,000 per year of service. The council approved an increase of $850 per year of service.
In other city business on April 14, building permits were approved to:
•Larry and Linda Sanow at 704 Elizabeth Avenue for a storage shed;
•Dan Fick at 300 West 1st Street to replace cement driveway;
•Kouri and Nora Wysong at 216 West 1st Street enclose second story porch;
•Ron and Sandy Feucht at 216 West 1st Street to replace siding on small garage to match the house and install an overhead door;
•LeRoy and Shelly Van Wyhe at 505 South Elizabeth replace cement in driveway.
The council also approved a request from the Hills Bar to block off the street for a Friendship Days street dance.
The street will be blocked from the Hills Bar proceeding north to the intersection of North Main Avenue and Second Street.
The street dance will be from 9 p.m. to midnight, Saturday, June 13.
The Board of Appeal and Equalization meeting will be during the City Council Meeting Tuesday, May 12.
The regular meeting will begin at 6 p.m. and the Board of Appeal meeting will be in session from 6:30 p.m. to 7 p.m.
