LHS boys’ basketball team loses close contest to Worthington 58-51

The Luverne boys’ basketball team hosted Worthington Tuesday, Jan. 9, falling to the Trojans 71-68.

Against Worthington, Luverne had a 36-33 lead over the Trojans at half time.

Patriot boys’ basketball falls to Southwest Christian 66-55

The Hills-Beaver Creek boys’ basketball team played Southwest Minnesota Christian in Edgerton Tuesday, Jan. 9, and lost to the Eagles 66-55.

H-BC kept the game close in the first period, falling behind the Eagles 32-26 at the half.

Cardinal wrestlers drop two duals to Marshall and Pipestone

The Cardinals traveled to Pipestone for a triangular with the Arrows and Marshall Tigers on Thursday, Jan. 11,

Luverne fell in both duals, falling to Marshall 47-18 and to Pipestone 38-36.

Winter weather freezes out several sporting events

Mother Nature took a turn for the worse this past week causing several local sporting events to be postponed or rescheduled.

After a mild winter through the first of the year, this winter storm and freezing temperatures hit the area hard.

Cardinal girls’ basketball team tops Worthington 58-51 in Luverne

The Luverne girls’ basketball team pulled out a 58-51 win against Worthington Tuesday, Jan. 9, in Luverne.

“We are continuing to get better and realizing what it takes to win games,” TJ Newgard said. “Hopefully we can build on this game and get something going.”

We just had our first snow of the season, and it did not take very long to wish we had missed the snow for the entire winter. The cold temperatures expected later in the week would have gone a long way to creating safe ice for all of those ice anglers waiting on the shore.
