Every year, as spring comes, we see the miracle of life start once again. We look forward to the daffodils and tulips blooming and the fade from winter to spring. Things go from the gray and brown colors to living, vibrant green and vivid cheerful colors. Many people look forward to shedding their heavy coats in favor of lighter-weight apparel.
Even though we go through this cycle every year, it is still amazing to see. We often wish as if we could go through that cycle as well. Whether we are getting older or just regret some of the poor decisions in our lives, the idea of being able to start over again is somewhat appealing. Even our children often wish for a “do-over” when things don’t go the way that they had hoped.
Our Savior gives us that new beginning. No matter what we have done wrong (though there may be consequences in life), no matter what we wish we could undo, Jesus offers us true forgiveness, peace, and a new beginning.
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to his abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead.” 1 Peter 1:3.
We recently celebrated our Lord’s resurrection on Easter Sunday. After his brutal crucifixion and death on Good Friday and burial in Joseph’s new tomb, three days later, just as he promised, the God-man Jesus Christ rose back to life and resumed his glory. He accomplished true victory over death and the grave. He appeared to the women and the disciples to comfort and assure them that he really was alive!
Through faith in Jesus Christ, we have a living hope. And we don’t have to wait for our life to begin at some point in the future, for we have it now. Jesus gave his life for us on the cross so that you and I could have life through him by faith.
As our loving perfect substitute, he took all of our sins, our mistakes, our death, and replaces them with his righteousness, life and salvation. By faith in Jesus as our Savior from sin, he unites us to his glorious resurrection, thereby giving us life.
Just as he was raised from the dead, we are now freed from spiritual and eternal death, through faith in Christ. And on the last day we too will experience a great resurrection.
This spring enjoy the beauties of God’s creation coming back to life. Even more importantly, see the greatest miracle of life given to you through the living, victorious Savior — Jesus!
