Early in the morning on Saturday, July 15, more than 100 bikers were gearing up for the Sixth Annual Tour de Donut bicycle event in Luverne.
The competition, organized by Dave Duffy and volunteers, draws bikers from as far away as Minneapolis, Grand Forks and Kansas City to ride bikes, eat donuts and have fun.
The event is broken into four routes based on distance.

The Luverne Post 123 Jr. Legion baseball team won the 2023 Southwest Sub-Sub State bracket July 11, beating Windom 11-6.
Luverne won its first two sub-state games against St. James, 4-0, and Madelia, 9-8, on July 16.
Luverne is scheduled to take on Slayton Tuesday, July 18, in Sleepy Eye at 5 p.m.

The Luverne Sr. Legion Post 123 baseball team traveled to Veteran’s Park in St. James for the 2023 American Legion Division II Southwest Sub-State Tournament this past week.
The Cardinals won their first game against Wells 7-0 July 13 but lost the next two games, 1-0 to Sleepy Eye July 14 and 7-2 to St. James on July 15.
The Sr. Legion team closed the season with a record of 9-3.

The Luverne Country Club hosted its 2023 Member-Guest Golf Tournament Friday, July 7, and Saturday, July 8.
There were 53 two-man teams participating in the 36-hole tournament.

The eighth annual Davis Lake Triathlon kicked off the Fourth of July activities at The Lake last week with athletic competition in kayaks, on bicycles and on foot.
The triathlon has two divisions, the Minnows and the Sharks.
The Minnows race is a quarter mile kayak, two-mile bike ride and one-mile run.
