The Luverne cross country team started the 2023 season participating in the Beresford, South Dakota, XC Invite Friday, Aug. 25.
Luverne was among 30 teams invited to the event at the Bridges Golf Course.

Chris Nowatzki was crowned the 2023 Luverne Country Club senior men’s club champion Saturday.
Nowatzki secured the low gross score of 72 to earn the title.
Gary Golla placed second overall with a 73. Dan Kern and Dan Serie tied for third with scores of 78.
Golla’s 65 net score, which is gross score minus handicap, made him the overall low net winner.

The Luverne Jr. American Legion baseball team took third place in the 2023 Division II State Tournament Sunday, Aug. 6, in Granite Falls.
At the state competition, Luverne beat Le Sueur 9-0 Friday, Aug. 4, lost to an undefeated Montevideo team 13-2 Saturday, Aug. 5, and beat Granite Falls 7-5 to take third place in the tournament.
