As Jim and I reviewed our personal highlights of 2025, we were amused to conclude the year's "best" was the wooden patio screen we built from repurposed hog barn lumber.

I really need someone to tell how much it is going to snow this winter. We got snow early on and in one weekend hunting pheasants in South Dakota it made it all the way to 12 below zero.

•Rock County Sheriff’s Department requested assistance from another department eastbound on Interstate 90 at mile marker 8 near Beaver Creek.

Hills-Beaver Creek Secondary secretary was honored last week by students, colleagues and the community for her 30 years with the district.

At their Dec. 22 meeting, H-BC School Board members accepted Scholten’s resignation, some of them remembering her when they were students at H-BC.

•A white Christmas arrived in Rock County Friday evening, Dec. 25, blanketing the area with roughly 7 inches of fresh snow.

Sioux Valley Energy and Basin Electric Power Cooperative presented Rock County with a $10,000 check to purchase new playground equipment at Kanaranzi Park.

The amount brings the county more than halfway toward meeting the $30,000 goal of paying for the equipment.
